Police say a Porsche driver died on Memorial Day after refusing to pull over for a traffic stop.
"The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Traffic Division is investigating after a man was killed when he crashed Monday (May 26) afternoon in the Lacombe area," Lieutenant Suzanne Carboni said in a news release.
She explained that a deputy saw the driver breaking the law.
"A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s patrol deputy attempted a traffic stop Monday afternoon on a Porsche after observing a traffic violation near the Airport Road exit of Interstate 12. The driver of the Porsche failed to stop and proceeded westbound on Interstate 12."
Carboni said the man took off, and the cop lost sight of the vehicle.
"It was later located crashed into the tree line at the Lacombe exit."
The driver was pronounced deed on the scene.
"Representatives from the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office took possession of the body and will provide a positive identification. However, it has been learned the driver had open warrants through the 22nd Judicial District Court."
