The Ponchatoula Police Department says a 60-year-old man is recovering from a gunshot wound and a 47-year-old woman is dead by her own hand following an incident at a fast food restaurant.

According to police, officers were called to the McDonald's on West Pine Street shortly after 5:15 p.m. Monday. There, they found 60-year-old Kelvin Stanley of Hammond suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

As officers rendered aid to Mr. Stanley, they came into contact with 47-year-old Cabrina Stanley, also of Hammond.

"At initial contact, the female was armed with a handgun," said police. "Despite several verbal commands to drop the weapon, she turned the weapon on herself."

Police say both individuals were taken to North Oaks Medical Center, where Cabrina Stanley died from her injuries. Kelvin Stanley is hospitalized in stable condition.
