UPDATE: Appeals court judges have temporarily halted sentencing for Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson, according to our partners at WWL-TV. Hutson was due to be sentenced to day for contempt of court, after criminal court judges last month ruled she failed to follow their orders to bring defendants to magistrate hearings on weekends and holidays. The sheriff says her office will now take "extreme measures" to transport those prisoners to court.

Original story follows:

The Orleans Sheriff's Office has had its reputation damaged by a major jailbreak, mistaken releases of inmates, and a contempt ruling also hangs over the sheriff's head.

Last month, judges at criminal district court found Sheriff Susan Hutson in contempt of court for failing to bring inmates in on weekends and holidays for magistrate hearings.

The court set sentencing for today.

Legal analyst Doug Sunseri says people found in contempt often end up in jail.

"But that sentence will be suspended if she has compliance with that order for the indefinite future," Susneri explained.

Hutson said her office will take "extreme measures" to comply with the judges' orders.
