The New Orleans City Council will hold a special meeting today to make sure the city's workers still get paid.
The council has questions for the administration, as it looks for solutions to a worsening budget crisis.
The Cantrell administration warned the council that cash flow problems threaten the city's payroll for the remainder of the year. Budget committee chairman Joe Giarrusso says they are being asked to borrow money.
"The administration is asking the council to essentially take out a hundred-million-dollar line of credit to resolve this cash flow issue," said Giarrusso. "What we're doing is passing a resolution that will then go to the state bond commission, which has to approve the matter, and then we go to a bank and try to negotiate the best terms."
Giarrusso says that money will have to be paid back, which hopefully will happen as soon as the federal government shutdown ends, because the city is waiting for FEMA reimbursements.
The council meeting is at 3 p.m.
