With the clock ticking until the end of the month, there's still no insight as to who might be picking up trash for the city in the French Quarter.
"This is problematic," said New Orleans City Council President J.P. Morrell.
Morrell said in Monday's special meeting that he has a lot of questions about the validity of the contract with Henry Consulting, which is expected to begin trash collection on August 1st. He's awaiting answers today.
"We need all of the documentation. I need the original contract that was signed, and I need the original signatures. I need all that information," said Morrell. "I need an explanation from the law department how you have a perfected contract without a bond being signed?"
City officials told the council they haven't seen a signed performance bond, which is a standard part of city contracts that protects the taxpayers, financially, if work isn't performed.
The mayor's office says legal matters surrounding these sanitation services will ultimately be resolved by the courts.
