Another controversial topic that New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell addressed was her recent travel to other countries, which has cost taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars.
The mayor said those trips promote New Orleans abroad, and her travel spending is an investment in the city. WWL's Tommy Tucker asked New Orleans City Councilman Joe Giarrusso if he's seen any tangible results from those trips.
"So far, I haven't seen any, and I think that's really the touchstone," Giarrusso said.
The District A councilman says he understands that sometimes public officials need to travel, "but I think if you're going to have trips, particularly those overseas, there has to be a return on your investment."
Giarrusso said officials also need to be seen here so people know they are serving the public that elected them.
