A report released by the NOPD Federal Consent Decree Monitor brought to light some questionable tactics used by the NOPD to improve response times to critical incidents by reprioritizing others.
In the report released last Friday the monitors cited an exorbitant number of calls being downgraded, several of them involving reports of rape and domestic violence.
Councilman J.P. Morrell spoke with WWL’s Tommy Tucker telling him that analyst Jeff Asher saw these inconsistencies over a year ago. He also said the problem with this covert changing of the call levels not only skews the numbers reported, but also puts lives in danger.
There is something to look forward to according to the councilman. He touted newly confirmed Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick’s plan to correct some of the underlying issues that contributed to the covert reprioritization of calls like low recruitment and retention.
