Louisiana lawmakers have until January 15 to come up with new congressional districts that accurately reflect the state's minority population, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled.
Justices ruled the districts drawn up by lawmakers in early 2022 violated the Voting Rights Act.
Those six districts included only on Black majority district, despite the state's population being nearly one-third Black.
Governor-elect Jeff Landry is expected to call a special session shortly after he is sworn in as governor on January 8.
