In a shocking development Wednesday, Joseph ‘Trey’ Mahon, the Deputy Chief of the Covington Police Department, has been arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on charges of possessing child pornography.
Mahon is awaiting hearing and possible setting of bail later today.
Other reports say Mahon was taken in custody by law enforcement, but did not specify if it was Covington P.D. or St. Tammany Sheriffs.
The 37-year-old Mahon began his career with the Covington Fire Department and as a reserve police officer.
He joined Covington Police in 2007, transferring from the Fire Department, and worked his way up the ranks in the department through the Criminal Investigations Division.
After the retirement of Deputy Chief Robert Blount, Mahon was promoted to the position in 2020.
