In weekly tracking of New Orleans crime statistics, Metropolitan Crime Commission president Rafael Goyeneche says we are outpacing last year's homicides.
"We've had more homicides year-to-date this year than we did last year," Goyeneche told WWL's Newell Normand. "We had 31 in 2022, and we've had 33 so far this year."
Goyeneche says there is some good news:
"The shooting incidents, carjacking incidents, and armed robbery incidents have all declined," he said.
Homicides are six percent compared to this time last year, but shootings are down eight percent, armed robberies are down 18 percent, and carjackings are down 62 percent.
