Louisiana State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that claimed the life of 43-year-old Michael Gill of Cut Off.
The crash happened at about 1:00 a.m. this morning on Louisiana Highway 1 near West 55th Street.
“The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA Hwy 1 when it traveled off the roadway while in a curve. The driver attempted to return to the roadway but overcorrected causing the truck to rotate while traveling off the roadway before overturning into Bayou Lafourche and becoming submerged,” says a statement from state police.
Troopers say Gill was unable to exit the submerged truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. An additional occupant in the truck was able to exit the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. Seatbelt use for the two occupants is unknown at this time.
The crash remains under investigation as Troopers work to determine who was driving at the time of the crash.
