Every time a Saints player in last night’s game came off the grass at Soldier Field, off came the helmet, on went a stocking cap.
It was a cold night in Chicago and the Bears had the Saints in their teeth and they weren’t letting go.
The Saints defense, going to a soft zone style in the third quarter let the Bears back into the game and they seemed to take full advantage of trying to pull out a win.
And plays weren’t going the Saints way either. Demario Davis got robbed of a fourth quarter fumble and recovery.
The play happened right in front of a line judge who said forward progress had been stopped, making the play not reviewable.
This set off a whole new fire of speculation the refs are out to get the Saints.
“That should’ve been a turnover, then we should’ve gotten the ball and ran the time out and won the game,” One fan proffered. “In my mind it should’ve been a turnover, [Bears tight end Cole Kmet] made a football move, he had [the ball] for five steps it should’ve been a turnover.”
That blown call set up Chicago’s field goal and the tie and overtime.
It put more wear and tear on a Saints team already reacting badly to the cold Chicago wind.
The upshot of the play: fans now have a new Saint favorite they will be keeping their eyes on.
Fresh eyes will be on the outside linebacker as he sets his sights on tackling Tom Brady, again this coming Sunday in Tampa.
Meanwhile, the team was without Michael Thomas and Kiko Alonzo and Emmanuel Sanders AND Marquez Callaway, but there is one team member who played like the Energizer bunny: everybody’s favorite, Alvin Kamara.
“Kamara was unbelievable, he just got us there,” One fan commented.
This woman was enamored with Kamara, wearing his jersey, a specially made mask and matching hat with Kamara’s name on them: “Shout out to Alvin Kamara, that’s my husband!”
“Kamara was fantastic,” Another fan said. “He made some good catches, too; he’s not even a receiver (!) And he made some good catches!”
“Kamara was amazing, he’s carrying the team right now. With Thomas and everybody out, so…he’s doing a great job right now.”
“He’s on fire,” One female fan exclaimed. “He is on fire, I’m so happy to have him on the team.”
