(AP) — New Orleans police say a man has been jailed after his 3-year-old daughter accidentally shot herself.
Police say they charged Barry Frelix on Tuesday with cruelty to a juvenile, obstruction of justice and illegal possession of a firearm by a felon.
Authorities say his daughter suffered a gunshot wound to her hand but is expected to recover.
Police say Frelix first reported that they were out for a walk before 11 p.m. on Feb. 25 when she was struck by gunfire.
Investigators say they later determined that the girl actually found the gun inside her house. It's unclear whether Frelix has an attorney who can comment for him.
