A man is dead after an early morning crash on the expressway near the Crescent City Connection.
"New Orleans Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident on the Pontchartrain Expressway headed toward the east bank," Sgt. Barry Fletcher said in a news release. "Police responded to a collision near the Tchoupitoulas exit on the Pontchartrain Expressway headed toward the east bank shortly before 2:00 am."
He says it was a crash between an automobile and an 18-wheeler.
"Officers found the adult male driver of the automobile unresponsive. New Orleans EMS confirmed the victim was deceased."
It had traffic shut down coming from the Westbank.
"Through further investigation, it was learned that traffic had been slowing due to an earlier accident. The victim's vehicle ran into the back of an 18 wheeler and became trapped."
