New Orleans Police says the driver that hit and killed someone on the interstate in downtown New Orleans fled the scene.
"NOPD is investigating a fatal accident on I-10 East at the Poydras Street Exit," Public Information Officer Karen Boudrie said in an email. "Initial reports show an unidentified victim was struck by a vehicle."
It happened just before 2:00am.
"EMS arrived on scene and declared the victim deceased."
Boudrie did not release any further information about the driver or the vehicle that hit and killed the person.
She did say, "This has been declared a hit & run fatality."
It is not initially clear if the person killed had been in another vehicle and gotten out or was walking on the I-10.
