The 13-day streak of no homicides in New Orleans is over.
NOPD officials say a man was shot and killed Wednesday night on Chef Menteur Highway at Alcee Fortier Boulevard. According to an NOPD spokesperson, officers responded to the scene just before 7:30 p.m. An EMS crew took the victim to the hospital, where he later died.
Police have neither identified the victim nor released a motive or the names of possible suspects.
This homicide is the first homicide worked by the NOPD in the month of December. City officials, including Mayor LaToya Cantrell, touted the recent streak of no homicides as a sign that the city is becoming safer.
