
(AP) — A 32-year-old Louisiana man is behind bars, accused of killing his mother and barricading himself inside of a home with his 6-year-old son.
WDSU-TV reports St. James Parish Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. said deputies responded to a shooting in Convent around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
Deputies said they discovered the suspect, Carlos Washington, had allegedly shot two people inside the home and barricaded himself inside with his son. Negotiators persuaded him to release the child and surrender.
Deputies later found Washington's mother dead from a gunshot wound to the head and his stepfather shot in the shoulder.
His condition wasn't immediately available. Washington faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
