The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating after a deputy shot someone this afternoon in River Ridge.

The sheriff's office says it happened in the 5200 block of Citrus Blvd., around 3:30 p.m., as deputies tracked a man wanted on several warrants.

"When deputies attempted to make contact with him, he fled, striking both a deputy and the deputy's vehicle," said Capt. Jason Rivarde of the JPSO. "The deputy fired at least one round."

Rivarde said the suspect stopped shortly afterward and they were able to get the suspect out of the vehicle. The suspect had been hit by gunfire at least one time.

"The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment," said Rivarde.

Our partners at NOLA.com report the injury is not thought to be life-threatening.
