As New Orleans continues making progress against the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be taking a huge step forward this weekend with the Krewe of Boo parade. We'll learn more today about how the city plans to use this parade as a test for Mardi Gras.
"This is a test case for what Mardi Gras could look like," said New Orleans Mayor's Office spokesman Beau Tidwell, "and we'll be paying very close attention."
Not only will Krewe of Boo participants need to show proof of vaccination or recent negative COVID test before they're allowed to roll Saturday night, Tidwell says they want the crowd to be masked up, and hope as many as possible are fully vaccinated.
"Which makes it more important everyone on floats be vaccinated and everyone in the crowd remain masked up wherever possible," Tidwell said.
Today the city's health department will go into details about how they want to gather and track the data that will be used to help guide the city's pandemic Mardi Gras policy for next year. City officials say the case numbers in New Orleans, even after the state's fourth surge, show the guidelines are working.
