Major concert tours remain on hold because capacity limits on most performance venues make it too costly to play, but there are some other tours getting started that don't mind reduced limits. The Superdome and Smoothie King Center are looking into booking some of them.

Superdome and Arena executive Doug Thornton says they're working on bringing events in besides just Saints and Pelicans games.

"We have a possibility of doing a monster truck show. It would be at 25 percent capacity, about 17,500 people here in the Superdome," said Thornton.

That would be at the Superdome in late July, and he said the presenters are willing to do it even if it's still 25 percent capacity.

Thornton told the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District commissioners that they are also in talks with the Harlem Globetrotters about coming to the Smoothie King Center,. which has been hosting about 4,000 fans for Pelicans games.

"The Harlem Globetrotters and WWE that want to do shows here at reduced capacity in the arena, at 4,200 seat capacity," Thornton said.

The city has placed a 25 percent capacity limit on the Superdome and Smoothie King Center for sporting events. Thornton said the owners of Monster Jam, World Wrestling Entertainment, Harlem Globetrotters, and some other traveling performances, are operated in a way that makes it feasible for them to hold their events even if they cannot pack the house, unlike major concert tours, which need much higher capacity in order to make the finances work.
