One person is dead after a crash on Interstate 10 East near downtown New Orleans. However, the victim in that case is not a DOTD worker as official had first reported.
That crash happened around 8 p.m. at the Canal Street exit.
According to an update provided by a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson, a person who was awaiting aid following a car crash was struck by a passing car. An EMS crew took the victim to the hospital, where he later died. The crashes remain under investigation.
Police have not yet released the victim’s identity.
Two lanes of I-10 going towards Slidell remain closed. In addition, exits 234 and 235 are closed to traffic while crews continue to work at the scene.
