Louisiana State Police have booked a man into jail after they say he flipped a stolen vehicle near Braithwaite, killing his passenger.

"The Plaquemines Parish crash... claimed the life of 56-year-old Ryan Riley of Gretna, and left the driver, 48-year-old Sherold Manuel, of Point a la Hache, with serious injuries," Trooper Jacob Pucheu detailed in a news release.

He says troopers discovered that the GMC Manuel was driving had been stolen in New Orleans in August of 2024.

"Upon release from the hospital, Manuel was booked into the Plaquemines Parish Jail for Negligent Homicide, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Careless Operation, No Seatbelt, and other traffic violations."

It happened Wednesday around 6:20am on LA 39 near Water Plant Road in Plaquemines Parish.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA 39 near Water Plant Road. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned."

Pucheu says that Riley was unrestrained in the front passenger seat and died on scene.
