Cops say one person is dead after an early morning crash in New Orleans East.
"The NOPD is investigating a fatal two-car crash that occurred this morning (August 11, 2023), in the 10,000 block of Almonaster Avenue," Public Information Officer Devona Dolliole said in a news release. "At about 5:30 a.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash."
When police arrived, they found a car engulfed in flames.
"The NOFD was called to put out the fire and the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene."
Dolliole says the driver hit an SUV while both were headed east on Almonaster.
"For an unknown reason, the white sedan clipped the back of the SUV. The driver lost control and careened into the neutral ground hitting a light pole. The white sedan came to a stop and caught fire, trapping the unknown driver inside the vehicle."
She says The driver of the SUV was uninjured and remained on scene.
