New Orleans Police say a series of events led to a driver's death on I-10 overnight.
"At about 11:32 p.m., officers responded to the location and located an unknown and unresponsive subject in the roadway. The victim was declared deceased on scene," according to a news release.
It happened on Interstate 10 West at the Little Woods exit.
Cops say the driver got out of the car after running over something.
"Through investigation, NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit investigators determined that the unknown victim had been traveling westbound on Interstate 10 when their vehicle collided with an unknown object. The victim then exited their vehicle for unknown reasons and began walking along the interstate when they were subsequently struck by a passing vehicle."
The release states that the victim was then struck by additional passing vehicles.
According to an initial police report the incident is listed as a "hit and run fatality."
That indicates that the driver or drivers that hit the individual did not stop and fled the scene.
