Driving with lights off leads to Northshore drug bust
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office says a traffic stop for a driver who didn't turn on his headlights led to the seizure of drugs, cash, and a gun.

Detectives assigned to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Proactive Enforcement Unit pulled the driver over in the 1500 block of Gause Blvd. in Slidell.

The sheriff's office say the driver, 65-year-old Eugene McKnight of Slidell, had in his vehicle crack and powder cocaine, meth, marijuana, fentanyl, and illegally possessed prescription medications.

According to detectives, the drugs were all pre-weighed and packaged for sale on the street.

Deputies also seized $1,623 in cash and a loaded handgun.

The sheriff's office says McKnight is prohibiting from possessing a firearm until 2037 due to prior charges.
