Early voting for the December election is underway. It began on Friday November 20 and ends tomorrow November 28.
Louisiana’s Commissioner of Elections Sherri Hadskey says the voter turnout for early voting in this election is far less than what the state saw in the November Presidential election.
“In fact for November 3rd we had 817,000 people who turned out for early voting it was wonderful. It was the largest turnout we have ever seen in my 32 years of doing this job,” said Hadskey. “For December 5th so far, we’ve had 60,000 people turn out.”
“I’m hoping we get more of a turnout we have had a quite a bit of people vote absentee but still not the numbers we seen for November 3rd,” Hadskey added. She says the overall voter turn out in Jefferson and Orleans Parish is about eight percent.
Hadskey says this December ballot has a Constitutional Amendment and 5th Congressional District run off, and Public Service Commissioner runoff election and a District Attorney runoff election in Orleans Parish.
Election Day is December 5. Voting locations open at 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
