St. Charles Parish authorities say a man is dead after turning his bicycle into the path of an SUV Monday.
"At approximately 6:10 p.m., a 25-year-old man from Luling was driving southbound on Ormond Boulevard in an SUV," SCPSO Sergeant Jenni Barrette explained in a news release. "At the same time, a 69-year-old man from Destrehan was riding his bicycle in the bike lane."
She says they are trying to figure out why the bike rider than veered out in front of the driver.
"For reasons that remain unclear, the bicyclist made a left turn in front of the SUV and was struck by the vehicle."
Barrette says the 69-year-old victim was taken to the hospital, where he died.
"The 25-year-old driver of the SUV was not charged in connection with the incident."
