A Friday afternoon crash left one person dead and three other people hospitalized on the Westbank.
JPSO released details today.
"The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred yesterday in Marrero," Sergeant Brandon Veal said in a news release. "Just after 12:00 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 8th St., and Barataria Blvd."
He says they arrived to find a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Chevrolet Malibu had collided.
"An unresponsive elderly female was located inside the Chevrolet Malibu. She was suffering from apparent crash-related injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene."
Veal says the driver and another passenger in the Malibu, along with the driver of the Grand Cherokee, were transported to local hospitals.
"All were listed in stable condition."
The sergeant says the driver of the car with the elderly woman inside apparently pulled out in front of the Jeep.
"The initial investigation indicates that the Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on Barataria Blvd. when the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu attempted to cross Barataria Blvd. at the 8th St. intersection resulting in the collision."
He says neither driver appeared to be impaired, but they took blood samples.
"Toxicology results are pending."
