A woman is dead and Louisiana State Police say a car hit her as she walked along the road before sunrise Thursday.
"Shortly before 4:30 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 46 near Mary Ann Drive," Trooper Kyle Wagner wrote in a news release.
He says the crash claimed the life of 70-year-old Viola Sino of Meraux.
"The preliminary investigation revealed that Sino was walking in the westbound lanes of LA Highway 46 wearing dark colored clothing. At the same time, a 2018 Toyota Corolla was traveling west on LA Highway 46. For reasons still under investigation, Sino was struck by the Toyota."
Wagner says Sino sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
"The driver of the Toyota was determined not to be impaired. Routine toxicology samples were collected from Sino for analysis. This crash remains under investigation."
