Entergy Corp. says it has two plans it is working on to start bringing electricity back into New Orleans. The first attempt to get at least some lights back on could happen as soon as tomorrow evening.
The company says it is working on these two solutions:
1) Restoration of certain critical transmission lines that tie the Greater New Orleans region to the larger electric grid (their preferred solution)
2) Creating an “island” that would temporarily isolate the greater New Orleans region from the larger electric grid. Entergy says this stand-alone grid will operate on a limited basis supplied by local generation from the New Orleans Power Station in New Orleans East, and their Ninemile 6 plant in Bridge City.
Entergy says power restoration will be geared toward reconnecting pieces of critical infrastructure first: hospitals, first responder stations, and nursing homes.
Restoration will vary by parish and neighborhood based on the degree of local transmission and distribution damage.
