Expect long lines and a packed Louis Armstrong International Airport over the next two days. It’s the first major holiday travel period for the new terminal since COVID began to wane, and nationally air travel numbers are expected to be close to pre-pandemic levels.
MSY Director of Communications Erin Burns told WWL’s Tommy Tucker that it won’t be “terrible” but travelers should come prepared and on time.
“You always want to give yourself two hours before your scheduled departure to be at the airport that way you can navigate through the check-in counters, through the TSA line, stress-free and worry-free,” said Burns.
Despite the state-wide mask mandate being dropped a mask mandate is still in effect for airports until January 18th of 2022.
The new Louis terminal opened up just months before the start of the pandemic and Burns said for many travelers this will be their first time seeing it.
“So a lot of people are still new to this airport, new to all of the services we have, navigating the roadways,” said Burns.
There have been some reports about the parking lots at Louis filling up quickly. Before you leave be sure to check out www.flyMSY.com to get an up-to-date look at the parking situation.
