While New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond says the Johnson and Johnson vaccine of being derived from cells taken from aborted fetuses, Associate Professor in the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Susan Hassig says it is important to know the facts about the J&J vaccine.
“These are not derived from newly aborted fetuses….these are not done on purpose for the production of the vaccine,” said Hassig.
The cells used in the development of the vaccine are embryo cells that were harvested decades ago and have been used in the research and development of many other vaccines according to Hassig.
Hassig also says it is a misconception that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is less effective than the Pfizer of Moderna Vaccine.
“When we look at the Johnson and Johnson data, in terms of severe disease, and more importantly hospitalizations and death...Johnson and Johnson quickly goes up to well above 85% and 100% in protecting against hospitalizations,” Hassig explained.
Hassig says the important thing is to get the vaccine regardless the manufacturer.
