Taking issue with their son’s six day school suspension over a BB gun being seen on video feed during a test, the family of Ka’Mauri Harrison is taking action.

The Harrison’s are suing the Jefferson Parish Public School System, filing their action on Friday.

The case has drawn attention and support for the boy from such outside forces as State Attorney General Jeff Landry, the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Rifle Association and more.

Superintendent James Gray, Woodmere Elementary Principal Cecily White, JPPSS Hearing Officer Terri Joia and JPPSS attorney Patricia Adams are named as the principle defendants in the case.

The matter began during an on-line test when a teacher saw Ka’Mauri Harrision move a BB gun.  The young man was disconnected from the lesson.

The boy was suspended and recommended for expulsion.

Blow back from the suspension has prompted an investigation by the Attorney General to determine if the family’s rights of privacy were violated among other allegations of governmental overreach.

According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, who obtained a copy of the suit, it states:

"This case arises from egregious government overreach, complete lack of common sense to prevail and correct the glaring failures of local government officials to comply with the law.  The result is a terrifying intrusion into a family's home and a bureaucratic nightmare that unites the Attorney General, ACLU, and the NRA in agreement that the parents and child's statutory and constitutional rights have been violated."
