A move by President Biden earlier this week to commute the sentences of federal prisoners sentenced to death received its backlash, even here close to home where convicted killer Len Davis had his sentence commuted to life in prison.

Among the vocal was Louisiana AG Liz Murrill who said the move does not protect victims. However, we are learning from officials, that the family of Kim Groves, the woman whom Davis was convicted of plotting the murder of, wanted a life sentence even before Biden took office.

District Attorney Jason Williams say the Groves family have been pretty clear about their stance and the reason why.

"They felt the life sentence was a harsher so that he'd have to live everyday with what he'd done like they have."

Attorney General Murrill released a statemen suggesting that if the Federal Government cannot provide justice for victims, it would be up to the state. However, there is no indication at this time that any jurisdiction of the state of Louisiana or the city of New Orleans plan to pursue prosecution against Davis.
