Randy Fandal will be Slidell's new mayor, after winning 72 percent of the vote in the primary.
Fandal defeated Bill Borchert Jr. in a special election to replace Greg Cromer, who resigned to take a job with Gov. Jeff Landry's administration.
Borchert has been Slidell's acting mayor since Cromer stepped down.
Fandal has served as Slidell's police chief since 2016.
His election means Slidell will need to elect a new chief.
