An apparent fire alarm at New Orleans City Hall Thursday morning forced an unscheduled recess of the New Orleans City Council's meeting.
Shortly before 11 a.m., sirens began to wail as the council was in the middle of the honors and presentations that begin every meeting.
"That means I'm supposed to shut up," District E member Oliver Thomas quipped as the alarms blared, interrupting his presentation.
"Unfortunately, because, as you are hearing the alarm go off, we are going to have to leave the building," said council vice president Helena Moreno.
By 11:05, the meeting had resumed.
There is no word on what caused the alarm.
