NOFD Captain Edwin Holmes says they showed up to find a fire and people fleeing.

"Several vagrants were seen leaving the abandoned facility," he noted in a news release.

The call came in at 3:00am.

"At 3:05 a.m., NOFD Fire Operations personnel arrived at the site of the former U.S. Naval Support Activity. Upon arrival, firefighters were
confronted with a larger fire on the second floor of one of the buildings," according to Holmes.

They called for more firefighters.

"A second alarm was requested... as efforts to contain this incident became more challenging."

Holmes says 46 personnel brought the blaze under control at 5:16am.

"There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire hasn’t yet been determined."
