After battling hot spots and flare ups all weekend from Friday's huge fire at the Marathon refinery in Garyville, firefighters say the blaze is now out.

Marathon officials told St. John the Baptist Parish leaders, “The fire has been extinguished. Our response team continues to monitor and maintain control of the impacted area at our Garyville Refinery.”

St. John the Baptist Parish Communications Director Baileigh Rebowe Helm says plant managers tell them there is no evidence of any impact outside of the plant.

"Air monitoring results have and continue to show no off-site impact. Three organizations have conducted independent air monitoring during the response: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and a third-party contractor, as well as our local Marathon team," she said in an email with updates from Marathon.

St. John the Baptist Parish and more than 15 other organizations have provided mutual aid during our response.
