New Orleans Firefighters responded to a blaze at the vacant Plaza Tower Building on 1001 Howard Avenue this morning.
First company fire crews were called to the scene when smoke was seen coming from the roof of the building.
Crews entered the building and immediately began conducting a primary search.
The building is currently vacant, but the risk of vagrants or squatters being present is always a concern.
While conducting their search, firefighters found multiple points of origin.
Much of the smoke traveled up the elevator shaft and exited the building via the roof.
The firefighters on the scene completed their search of the building while additional crews began to extinguish the fires.
Fifteen NOFD units carrying thirty-six Fire Operations personnel were deployed to the scene of this fire.
The fire was placed under control at 8:28 am.
There are no reports of any civilian or firefighter injuries.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s office had representatives on the scene to assist in determining the cause of the fire.
The blaze is currently under investigation.
