Some scary moments Wednesday night for a New Orleans East neighborhood after flames engulfed a townhouse and threatened to spread to more homes.
"The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a call reporting a fire involving a dwelling at the corner of Skyview and Airway Drives in New Orleans East," Capt. Edwin Holmes said in a news release. "The first NOFD company arrived on the scene at 10:07 p.m. An unoccupied two-story townhouse, at 6060 Airway Dr., was heavily involved in flames."
He says firefighters were able to keep the fire mostly contained to the original fire building, protecting the row of occupied dwellings.
"An adjoining unoccupied townhouse, 6054 Airway Dr., did receive moderate fire and water damage."
It took seventeen NOFD units, with 42 NOFD personnel to get the blaze under control at 10:35pm.
"There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated," Holmes said.
