A shooting in Avondale has left a five-year-old boy dead and investigators trying to figure out how it happened.
According to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson, that shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at a home on Helen Drive near South Jamie Boulevard.
Deputies say they learned about the shooting after the child arrived at a local hospital with a single wound to the body. The child was later transported to a second hospital, where he died early Monday morning.
According to the JPSO spokesperson, detectives found a gun inside the home where the shooting took place. The case remains under investigation.
