UPDATE, 7:30 a.m.: I-10 East near LaPlace is now open.
Interstate 10 East is closed between Gramercy and LaPlace because of a multi-vehicle crash involving an overturned 18-wheeler.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash happened around 2 a.m. near mile marker 200, about six miles west of the LaPlace/Belle Terre exit.
Troopers say crews are in the process of getting the tractor-trailer uprighted, but because of the load the truck is carrying, the timetable for clearing the highway is undetermined.
Authorities are diverting traffic to Airline Highway at Exit 194, the LA641/Gramercy exit.
Westbound traffic is unaffected.
