The polls have closed and unofficial election returns are coming in.
The major races in today's election concern the city of New Orleans. Mayor LaToya Cantrell is looking for a mandate to take into a second term, while thirteen other candidates seek to force her into a runoff.
Every seat on the city council is also being contested, as is Orleans Parish Sheriff, Tax Assessor, and Clerk of Criminal District Court.
There is also a special election on the ballot for Louisiana House District 102.
Several parishes in the metro area have local ballot propositions and voters in every parish have been asked to weigh in on four proposed amendments to the Louisiana Constitution.
