The race for mayor in New Orleans has picked up its second official candidate. Former Orleans Parish Criminal Court Judge Arthur Hunter filed paperwork Thursday signaling his intention to enter the race.
Hunter says he talked to hundreds of people as well as civic groups before making his decision.
"To date, I’ve personally met with over 300 different people, organizations, and groups about the issues facing us. One thing is clear: New Orleans is at a crossroads," said Hunter in a statement. "Our city deserves leadership with both real solutions and a commitment to making our city safer, stronger, and more prosperous for all."
At-Large New Orleans City Councilmember Helena Moreno announced her candidacy in December.
District E Councilmember Oliver Thomas said he would make an announcement by Mardi Gras on whether he will run for mayor.
Qualifying is in July, with primary elections in October and a November runoff, if necessary.
