Former Kenner official pleads guilty in inspections bribery case

The former director of Kenner Inspections and Code Enforcement entered a guilty plea in federal court today, WWL-TV reports.

James Mohamad pled guilty to charges of bribery and filing false tax returns. In exchange, the other charges were dropped.


The government accused Mohamad of bribing city of New Orleans inspector Brian Medus to sign off on work done by Mohamad's HVAC company.

Medus has already pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge.

Mohamad faces up to eight years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. Sentencing is set for July.
