It was a violent Sunday night and early Monday morning in the Crescent City.

Around 9:00pm, bullets were flying in the St. Roch neighborhood.

"The NOPD is investigating an Aggravated Battery by Shooting at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and N. Tonti Street around 9:12 p.m.," according to an email from the Public Information Office. "Initial reports show a male sustained a gunshot wound to his body. The victim arrived to a local hospital via private conveyance to be treated for his injuries."

About three hours later there was gunfire in Treme.  A woman  and a man were wounded.

"The NOPD is investigating an Aggravated Battery by Shooting in the 1200 block of North Claiborne Avenue around 12:20 a.m. Initial reports show a male and female sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies. EMS transported the victims to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. "

Less than two hours after that, the gunfire was in Mid-City.

"The NOPD is investigating a Homicide by Shooting on North Carrollton Avenue that occurred around 2:00a.m. Initial reports show a male sustained gunshot wounds to his body. EMS declared the victim deceased on the scene."

It comes at a time when crime analysts were hopeful thing were improving from the massive spikes over the past two years amid dramatic drops in the ranks of the NOPD.

The Metro Crime Commission posted a week ago, "We are seeing a 'slowing down' in several violent crime categories, meaning fewer new weekly incidents to report.  Too soon to say whether this represents a lull or a true downward trend in violence, but we are pleased with the direction things are going!"

The rate of increase of shootings and murders in the city had been slowing, while it is still outpacing 2021.

"The combined fatal + nonfatal shooting total for 2022 (591; 32% fatal) is moderately higher than the fatal + nonfatal shooting total in 2021 (557; 25% fatal)."

That was as of Monday, November 7th, 2022.
