NOPD and Jefferson Parish Sheriffs are involved in a manhunt after the two suspects who escaped from a car being chased by Sheriffs from Metairie into New Orleans.
The departments say based on the capture of two other suspects in the car they were chasing the two who escaped “had been associated with multiple violent crimes in the past few weeks,” according to the arrest records of the two arrested following the high speed chase.
21-year-old Jarbar Thomas, a Chalmette resident and 19-year-old Mark Cureaux of New Orleans are now in the Jefferson Parish Jail after the pursuit that ended on South Claiborne Avenue, Wednesday.
The men, and two others, were in a stolen blue Hyundai.
The pursuit into New Orleans and subsequent search of the neighborhoods around Claiborne and Carrollton were unable to find the two remaining suspects.
The chase began when the stolen vehicle was wanted in connection to a shooting being investigated by the State Police.
The car drove off as the driver refused to pull over and at one point rammed a JPSO cruiser.
After crashing and coming to a stop, authorities captured and arrested Cureaux and Thomas and the two others got away.
Those two suspects remain unidentified.
According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, officers found two handguns and a rifle. A third handgun was confiscated when a suspect dropped it when he got out of the car.
Marijuana, drug scales and other drug related paraphernalia were found in the car.
Cureaux and Thomas are facing charges in Jefferson Parish with possession of stolen property valued over $25,000, possession of stolen firearm, aggravated flight from an officer, four counts of the use of a firearm in connection to drug related activity, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, resisting arrest, and possession of drug related paraphernalia.
The two are being held on $171,000 bail.
They are also facing charges in Orleans Parish.
