A towering Mid City eyesore that is one of the neighborhood's last, lingering reminders of Hurricane Katrina may finally be set to meet the wrecking ball.
New Orleans city officials and the owners of the building that was once Lindy Boggs Medical Center have reportedly reached an agreement that could mean demolition may begin as soon as this summer.
With the help of $11.5 million in city bonds, the building will come down and on its site will be an underground stormwater retention tank.
Our partners at NOLA.com report the developers plan to build apartments and retail above it.
The demolition is likely to take about eight months.
