Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry is calling lawmakers into a special session later this month, as the state awaits word from the U.S. Supreme court on whether or not it will have to redraw congressional districts for the third time since 2020.

The governor wants lawmakers to meet on October 23, one week from today. The session will go no later than November 13.

The purpose of the session is to push back the dates for qualifying and the primary election, to give would-be candidates some time as the justices make their decision.

The current election calendar calls for the three-day qualifying period to begin January 14.

The primaries are set for April 18.
