As Tropical Storm Bertha bears down on Louisiana, a great many residents may not even notice a drastic change in weather. While some wary citizens of greater New Orleans are still making some storm preparations, meteorologists are expecting mild impacts at best for most of the region.
Grand Isle is catching the worst of the storm’s impacts, with wind gusts around 30 mph expected to continue throughout the day. Grand Isle Mayor David Camardelle says he personally inspected all of the critical infrastructure and says pumps are working and he’s keeping fire and police departments on high alert.
Tropical Storm Bertha is expected to start its greatest impacts on the area around 1pm. Mayor Camardelle says the island is packed with both residents and visitors right now, so all crucial departments are remaining prepared. “A lot of residents and tourists are here because the last two weekends we’ve had Blue Boot and Island Fest. Then, we’re trying to kick off the Tarpon Rodeo here at 5pm tomorrow. So, we’re trying to get this thing out of here and over to Texas,” he went on to say.
